The Perfect Wedding Day Look?

Many brides (and grooms for that matter!) have stress about how they'll look on their wedding day. There is so much advice out there about how to get the 'perfect' look, do's and don'ts, and enough arbitrary rules to make anyone want to pull their hair out. My advice to all you soon to be newlyweds? Wear what makes you feel bridal/groom-like/wedding-y or whatever you want to call it.

It may come as a shock, but all your guests will already know that you are the bride or groom, you don't have to wear certain clothing to act as a neon sign above your head screaming 'I AM THE BRIDE!!". If anyone is confused about who the special couple is, they are probably at the wrong wedding.

Don't get me wrong...I'm a huge fan of weddings in general and I've been known to love a good tradition or two, but doing something traditional for tradition's sake alone is a surefire way to end up unhappy and likely stressed out. You don't want to look back on your wedding day and feel like you spent the day in a costume that doesn't suit you doing things that have no meaning to you and your partner. Your wedding day is a time to feel like your best self and there is no specific wedding day "rule" to tell you what that is.

If your heart is set on a cathedral length veil with yards of tulle and flowers, go for it. If you want to wear a suit that makes you feel like the most badass bride in the world, do it. If you want to have your dog walk you down the aisle because they are your best friend, please send me a picture because I love dogs in weddings. Your day is about you as a couple and celebrating the life that you are building together. Any way that you can have a meaningful touch added to that day is a perfect way to create special memories for you, your partner & your guests.

So, the perfect wedding day look? You and your intended making that very special promise to each other in whatever way means most to you both. Don't let any do's & don'ts, outdated etiquette, or outsider opinions change what makes you happiest. Take in all the opinions and advice you are sure to get from well meaning family and friends (and the occasional overzealous stranger...believe me, it happens) and allow the traditions, so-called 'must have's' from Pinterest, and arbitrary rules to digest. Then, sit down with your intended and pick out the things that give you butterflies when you think about having them on your wedding day. The other things will fall away, leaving you with only what is perfect for the two of you.

I'd love to hear from you about your favorite wedding day looks, both traditional and non-traditional in the comments below. Tell me what made your day special!
